I have been researching my family and established that Ernest William
Javeleau and his wife Beatrice lived at 150 Fishpool Street in the 1901
census. Occupation is shown as Beer Retailer. I have now found a court case
in the Herts Advertiser in December 1902 where evidence is given by Beatrice
Javeleau, Landlady of the Blockers Arms. As she is still at that same
address in 1911 I think it highly likely they were there in 1902. By 1911,
however, Ernest is a bricklayer and Beatrice a Straw Hat Maker. The
1911 census summary and the 1912 directory again lists him as a beer
retailer. He is listed at the Royal Oak by
1922. By 1922, this address is no longer listed as a beer retailer.*
