Further information with regards to The George and Dragon which was in Stevenage High Street, the Old Town.
My great grandfather Thomas Field is recorded as being the publican and a butcher in the 1891 census. It records his wife Eliza, and their children Charlotte 17, Annie 14, Robert 10, Harry 7, my nanna Beatrice who was age 5 and Wallace age 9 months.
The 1901 census shows that he remained the publican there with wife Eliza, Harry now 17, Beatrice age 14 and Wallace age 10. Unfortunately I do no have any childhood photographs of my nanna Beatrice and her family. *

George and Dragon, High street, Stevenage, Beer On, Licensee Thomas Field, Owner Simpson and Co, Baldock

The George and Dragon, Stevenage, is a Beer On house, Owned by Messrs Simpson and Co, Baldock, and occupied by Thomas Field. The amount of the claim was £288 7s, but Mr Flint advised settlement at £235.
It was suggested that Messrs Simpson and Co should receive £225, and the tenant £10.
Mr Field said that he would agree to accept £10. He said he paid nothing to go into the house, and had been there for 19 yrears.
The Chairman: £10 seems a small amount. I think we should give the owners £220, and the tenant £15. This was agreed to
