My great-great-grandparents were Henry and Harriett Cole and they ran The
Leviathan, 61 St Alban's Road, Watford in 1871. Ten years earlier, in 1861,
they were landlords at The Malden
Hotel, Watford. According to the census it was 2 doors down from the
Register Office for Births & Deaths.

My great grandfather, Willie Hayes, was running the Leviathan pub in 1901
for a few years. The census does not name the pub, but the address is
correct. You will see Willie's brother & sister are also living there, but
we are not sure if they worked there as well. A few days later Willie
married my great grandmother, Annie Richardson, and their first four
children were born there. I understand they were given it in about 1900 and
I think they sold it by 1909. *
