My grandfather, Harold Frank Knight (known as Frank) was the publican at the
Red Lion in 1901. He was born in Hatcham in 1877, so was only 24 years old
at that time. His daughter, my aunt Ethel, was born there in 1901. I don't
think he stayed there very long as his wife's death certificate, dated 1904,
stated that he was then a cab driver living in London. He went on to become
a woollen merchant working in Kingly Street for Dumas & Maury and died in
Bromley in 1959. *
