The Sun Inn at Calbourne Isle of Wight was run by some of my distant ancestors, the Bucklers, for two or three generations from the 1700's until about 1920 ( last one was Buckler related but another name). It is a good old country pub although rebuilt in Victorian times after a fire - and still exists. ***

The old "Sun Inn" at Calbourne cross roads was destroyed by fire in April 1894. The fire was started by a lamp in a bedroom which set light to the hatch. It was quickly extinguished but broke out again the following day and this time destroyed the inn. The inn was later rebuilt after the local authority had realigned the crossroads. ***

The above detail and picture of the Sun are available at this site - I am confident they are well out of copyright.

The modern day Pub can be seen here - My wife and I had an excellent meal there with good ale, one of the few pubs left with good value pub grub and not all that designer gastro overpriced over handled muck of this age. ***
