I’m currently researching my wife’s family tree and have come across a
Frederick William Turtle who, in the 1901 census, is down as being a
licensed victualler at the Eagle Inn on the Isle of Wight. It’s interesting
to see that Fred (who passed away in 1910) left the pub to his
wife Louisa, and it seems to have stayed in the family until I presume it
closed. ***
Frederick Turtle and his wife Louisa, with daughter Thurza - circa 1895
Kindly provided by Ian Pendleton
The two pictures are Frederick Turtle and his wife Louisa, one with daughter Thurza. They lived at the Eagle Tavern when my grandfather Ron Traves met my grandmother their daughter Thurza they married in 1913. Thurza passed away on August 22nd 1937 aged 42 making the picture being taken in about 1895.The death notice in the local paper has Mrs E. Rolf (sister) I assume from the census that is Elsie Turtle and Mr L. Potts (step brother).Frederick Turtle and his wife Louisa at the Eagle Tavern
