My Great Grandfather John Leonard Grove was the licencee in the early
1930s, Kelly's 1934 Directory shows him at the Chequers PH in Aylesford.
*
He attempted suicide twice at the Chequers on 21st March 1935 and died
in hospital on 22nd March 1935 at which point his wife Frances Grove
took over the licence and ran the pub for several years afterwards. She
is shown as being there in the 1938 P.O. Directory and in the 1939
register. *
