James and Mary Budden had the Red Lion in Chatham in the earlier part of
the 1800’s. He was my wife’s Great Great Great Grandfather died 1866. We
cannot tell you which years other than that her Great Great Grandfather
James Jr. was born there in 1822. James Jr. owned a Wine merchants and
was joint owner of Budden and Biggs the brewers of Rochester. It also
appears that he was The High Constable for Chatham in the 1850’s. His
brother Austin was Mayor of Rochester in 1879-1880 and 1880-1881. *
