CHIDDINGSTONE, a parish and village, four miles S.E. from Edenbridge, seven
south from Sevenoaks, and one mile and a half S.E. from Penshurst station, lies
in the weald on the river Eden, and in the union of Sevenoaks. The population in
1851 was 1,269. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a large but an ancient
building. The living is a rectory, in the patronage of the Archbishop of
Canterbury, and incumbency of the Rev. William Edward Hoskins, M.A.
POST-OFFICE, William Brook, Postmaster. Letters arrive, by foot-post, from br />
Edenbridge. The nearest Money Order Office is at Edenbridge.
