Pubs & Hotels in Chislet & Upstreet
CHISLET is a parish and village half a mile north from Grove Ferry station, four
S.E. of Herne Bay, and eight N.E. of Canterbury. The population in 1851, was
1,189. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient and modern structure.
The living is a vicarage, in the gift of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Rev.
James Horden, M.A., is incumbent. Here are two dissenting chapels, Wesleyan and
Independent. Grove Ferry station is in the parish ; Wear Farm is half a mile
north; Marsh Row, one mile north; Clayhanger, half a mile S.W.; Upstreet, or
Upperstreet, is in the old Margate Road.
