Ellie, Market Square. The earlier
building was two pubs. One was owned by Fremlins, whose insignia was an Elephant
and the other was owned by Whitbreads, whose insignia was a Hind. When Fremlins
brewery was taken over by Whitbread, they knocked the two pubs into one building
and re-named it 'The Elephant & Hind'. The photos show the pub and in the second
picture a view of the old covered market building, now Dover Museum and Library,
to the right of the picture. **
