EASTWELL is a small village in the Hundred of Wye, Lathe of Scray, East Kent, three miles north from Ashford; seventy miles from London. Its population in 1851 was 88. The church of St. Mary is very ancient; the living is a rectory, in the gift of the Earl of Winchelsea; the Rev. Montague Oxenden, M.A., is the incumbent; there is also a National school in the parish.
