EGERTON is a parish to the S.W. of Charing, four miles north from Pluckley
station, and eight from Ashford station. The church is dedicated to Saint James,
is an ancient and handsome building; the living is a perpetual curacy; the Rev.
William Ayerst, MA., is the incumbent. The population in 1851 was 830.
Stonebridge Green is half a mile N.E.; Rosemary Lane one and a half miles N.E.;
Water Street one and a half miles north ; Puscombe one mile north; Goodale half
a mile north; Coldbrook one mile west; Pembles Cross one mile west; Links half a
mile west; New Land Green one mile S.W.; Monday Boys is one mile and a half
south; Brown Kitchen one mile and a half south.; Warnden two miles S.W.;
Markhurst two miles and a half S.W,; and Iden half a mile east.
