My Aunt Gladys Joy Renecle was baptised at Halling on the 23rd of April 1905. Her parents being, my great aunt Maria Renecle [NeeThorndike] and George Frederick Renicle who was at that time the Publican at the Rose & Crown Halling.
The Thorndike family were well established in Kent as publicans. Having moved to Cliffe at Hoo near Rochester in the 1860s to avoid the agricultural poverty in Suffolk, the family ran many pubs in the area. I have a good deal of public information on Ancestry. Just look up Fanny Thorndike or Alfred Charles Gilbert [my grandparents] or visit the Cliffe History  *
