The licensee 1875-1898 for the Dog & Bear in Rough Common, Harbledown, Kent,
was George Maple, my great great uncle by marriage. He married my
grandfather's Aunt, Maria Hands Jull in 1874, and she bore him 13 children,
all of whom survived into adulthood. George died in 1898 and as I understand
it, Maria took over the license. George also co-founded the Harbledown
Cricket Club in 1869 and was previously licensee of the Magpie 1874-75. **
