HERNE HILL is near Boughton-Under-Blean, in the hundred of the
same name, Faversham union, three miles east of Faversham, and eight N.W.
of Canterbury. The population in 1851 was 657. The church is dedicated
to St. Michael. The living is a vicarage in the patronage of the Archbishop
of Canterbury. The Rev. Charles Richard Handley, M.A., vicar. Dargate
is one mile N.E.; Waterham, one north; Down Fostal, half a .mile north;
Crockham, half a mile S.E.; Staple street, half a mile south; Bough Hills,
two miles and a half north.
