LOOSE is a pleasant village and parish, two miles and a half south, of
Maidstone. The population in 1851 was 1,542. The church, dedicated to All
Saints, is a very small building. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the
patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury; the Rev. Richard Boys, M.A., is the
incumbent. Well Street is a part of the village. Boughton Mount is half a mile
north; Cripple Street, half a mile N.E.; Salt's Place, half a mile S.E.; Hail, or
Hayle, one mile and a half north; Sharnal Pond, one mile N.E.; Penn's Court,
half a mile N.W,
POST-OFFICE - William Wells, Receiver. Letters arrive through taplehurst. The
nearest Money Order Office is at Linton.
