In the 1980s run by Barry Mayger, a local lad who achieved fame as one of
the founders of the group CHICORY TIP, the only group from Maidstone to get
to the very top. (#1 UK hit in 1972, Son off My Father, the first hit to
feature a Moog synthesiser). Barry ran it for many years, but eventually
moved to Portugal, where he died in January this year. *
