Let me tell a story :
[In 1916, Henry C Woodger Marries Alice Kate Skeen at Maidstone.]
I have now found this marriage in the parish of Barming and Henry Charles Woodger, aged 26, a Sergeant of the East Lancashire regiment marries Alice Kate Skeenes, aged 22. He is the son of Alfred Woodger, she is the daughter of Arthur Skeenes.
In 1911 is at the barracks in Woking, aged 20.
A Henry C Woodger is a Private in 1914-15 in 1st Battalion, East Lancshire regiment earning the 1914 Star. His regimental number is 10045.

Later in the War is this record.
Distinguished Conduct Medal :
10045 Company Sergeant Major - H C Woodger, East Lancshire regiment (Barming, Kent) (London Gazette 17 Apr 1918)
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his company commander had become a casualty and only two other officers remained he took command of a platoon and led his men with great dash. His continuous courage and initiative have been at all times most marked.

My great Aunt Em & husband Will, were landlords at The Swan in the 1950's- 1960's (haven't got the exact dates). I thought you would be interested to see a photo of the patrons outside ready for an outing. Such a shame the pub is now closed. *
