Caroline Payne (owner of Morden Arms) was my great-grandmother. My
grandfather met my grandmother there (nana was working for Caroline in the
pub). She must have been married initially to a "Peters" - my granddad was
Reginald Bernal Peters (later the owner of the White Lion in Cheriton Road).
I suspect that her first husband (granddad's dad) was killed in the war. ***
