Jack Woodhead was my Grandfather by marriage. As a matter of interest, Jack
Woodhead died in 1939. My Grandmother Margaret Kate Woodhead was then
granted the license for the pub. For a woman alone to be given a license was
a very rare occurrence at that time. Presumably it was granted through
Shepherd Neame owing to the outbreak of the war and the lack of men
available at the time. Margaret kept the pub until the mid 1950's when she
retired. We still have a copy of a license for her in the family. *
