My great grandfather, Joseph Gaye, and his family are listed with the
Rifleman (see below) and as a beer retailer in the same area in 1903. I
suspect Joseph and family were at this pub from about 1900 - 1905, when he
left for Canada - but before the 1906 census so I can't confirm he stayed at
the pub until he left. I was told Joseph changed the pub's name to the "Royal
Standard" -- as confirmed by the newspapers. *
