WILLESBOROUGH is a village pleasantly situated on the high road from Ashford Station to Hythe, two miles S.E. from, the former, and nine
miles and a half N.W. from the latter, partly in the hundred of Chart and
Longbridge, East Ashford union, lathe of Scray. The church of St. Mary
is a neat building. The living is a vicarage. The Rev. William Gould, M.A., is
the incumbent.
The East Ashford Union workhouse had, in 1851, 169 inmates. The population in
1851 was 1,022. Alfred Town, near the South Eastern Railway factory, is a new
town or suburb of Ashford, increasing in population.
