WITTERSHAM, or WITTRISHAM, is a village and parish, five miles north of Rye
station, and south of Tenterden. The population in 1851 was 987. The church is
dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and is a fine edifice. The living is a
rectory, in the gift of the Archbishop of Canterbury; the Rev. E. R. Nares is
the incumbent. The Wesleyans have a chapel here.
POST-OPFICE. - Thomas Forster, Postmaster. The nearest Money Order Offices are
at Rye and Tenterden.
