The Grand Trunk building dating back to at least 1860 is a former public house and hotel. Originally operated by the Anchor Brewery it transferred to Birkenhead Brewery in 1866, later becoming a Whitbread pub in 1980s. It permanently closed in January 1990. The pub closed and remained empty and derelict for 15 years until its purchase by Wirral Ark in January 2012 for homeless people, a local charity.
