29th September 1883/William Barnard made application for wine license to the
Bowl Turners Arms, 156 Belgrave gate, he being entitled to sell beer on and
off.
Mr Fowler, who appeared on behalf of Barnard, said his clients house was
greatly taken advantage of by persons coming from the Great Northern
Station, which was not far distant. Many came in for food, and also asked
for wine, but he could not supply them. Many persons had even gone away
because they could not get accommodated, and it was in consequence of
numerous requests that the present application was made. There was no
opposition./Leicester Chronicle *
