A distant relative James Halford was the Beerhouse Keeper at the
Woodboy in Fleet Street, Leicester when he
died in 1905. His Probate record reads:
HALFORD James of the "Woodby" inn 2 Fleet-street Leicester beerhouse-keeper
died 18 November 1905 at 115 Jarrom-street Leicester. Administration
Leicester 4 December to Edith Halford, widow. Effects 128 pounds 10
shillings.
I am not sure how long he had been there, he married in 1903 but I do not
have a copy of his marriage certificate. At the time of the 1901 Census he
is recorded as a barman at his parents pub, the Gladstone Arms. In the 1911
census, his widow Edith Halford was a servant at the
Crown & Cushion in Belgrave Gate,
Leicester, run by William Judkins and his wife Sarah Ann. *
