John Forge is one of the many smack owners and fishermen who move to Grimsby
from Barking, in Essex, by 1861. The opening of the train lines allow for
fish to be transported to Billingsgate Fish market far more quickly than
sailing up the Thames. It is estimated that 40% of the fishermen in 1861 are
from Barking.
