The Essex Coffee House existed from at least 1805.
The full name of this pub was the Essex Coffee House, although variations on the name seem to have been common over the years. It stood at the junction of Aldgate High Street and Middlesex Street and is also listed in census as the Essex Tavern, 1 Middlesex Street. The pub closed in 1968. **

Looking up Middlesex Street from Aldgate High Street, the Essex Arms is on the left. The advertising boards on the left are on the site of the original Aldgate East station, destroyed during WW2.
