I lived in Wandon Road London SW6 between 1948 and 1959, when all was demolished and redeveloped and we were rehoused. *
The pub on the corner with the Fulham Road no 461 was known to us as The Stamford Arms. There was a very faded unreadable sign painted above the top window where the building curved and on the wall facing Wandon Road were two slogans reading 'What we Want is Watneys'.
I have been unable to find any pub that matches its description and wondered whether its name was correct or only locally known?
The publican was Stanley Townsend who I believe was there a good many years.
The pub was redeveloped along with Stamford Bridge Studios where we lived.
I also see that 'The Rising Sun ' opposite the football ground entry changed its name to The Stamford Arms during the 1960's or 70s.
