In 1783, the Eclectic Society was formed and they commenced holding their meetings in the Castle and Falcon, a coaching inn owned by Matthew Dupont. A Society comment made at that time said Mr & Mrs Dupont, who keep the Castle & Falcon in Aldersgate Street "are very serious people and their house is as regular as a private family. They are likewise my friends.". ***
