Copenhagen House, 374 York Road, Islington N7

Islington index

Historical London public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels.

The early name is the Copenhagen House, with the address being Islington Fields in 1839. Long demolished, this pub was trading by at least the late 1930s, York Road having been renamed York Way. It was rebuilt in 1965 about a quarter of a mile away at 283 Camden Road, N7, becoming The Latin Corner around the late 2000s and then briefly Aracataca. It closed in 2013 and is now in use as commercial premises. ***

In 1887, Charles Frederick Williams marries Ellen Lloyd. Her father is William Lloyd, Licensed Victualler, and their address suggests the Russell Hotel, 116 Brixton road. This is also very likely to be the same William Lloyd, and family at the Spread Eagle, Stangate, Lambeth in the 1881 census.
