Lansdowne Arms, 10-11 Islington Green, Islington N1

Islington index

The address is 10 Old Paradise Row, Upper Street in 1869 and earlier, prior to street renaming, though it's 10 Islington Green in the 1839 Directory. The name is given as the Red Lion in the 1839 Directory, and in earlier Sun Fire Office insurance records, it's the Painted Red Lion (perhaps to differentiate it from the Carved Red Lion nearby). *

The Lansdowne Music Hall in the 1867 LV Association record. It became the Collins' Music Hall and was rebuilt as such in 1897, the two appear to be side by side at the same address in many Trade Directories as far back as 1882 and probably earlier.  The photo shows the structure from 1897; it continued as a music hall until the 1950s and today is a branch of Waterstones. ***
