Kensington News and West London Times. 05 March 1909 - Redundant Licenses.
Kensington Licensing News, Eleven referred for Extinction.
There were 17 premises on the list requiring evidence that they were not redundant, and those asking for renewals to offer evidence of the trade done, and why the licences should not be extinguished.
Hampshire Ale Stores, Notting Dale.
This beerhouse is in St Anns road, Notting Dale; the rateable value of this beerhouse was £38 and there had been twelve transfers.
There were 28 licensed houses within a quarter of a mile area, a fully licensed house, the Red Lion, being only 35 yards away. It was a very small house, and had two bars, but no public sanitary accommodation. The whole of the interior was being repaired.
The Police Inspector said the house had a floating populus, and was as good as the Garibaldi. Mrs Anna Rider, the licensee, said she was happy with the trade done at the house, with a decent living.
She was about to give up the tenancy, as there was too much to do, and not because of too little trade. Trade done was 167 barrels in 1906, 188 barrels in 1907 and 261 barrels in 1908. The Bench sent the house up for extinction.
