Mile End Pubs history

Established by 1690 as the Globe, the name Old Globe was in use by the 1830s to distinguish it from the New Globe which had opened nearby in 1820. Rebuilt in 1811 although much altered since. This pub closed in 2010 and is now used as a bookies. **

My Grandparents were George & Evaline Ford (nee Fitt) and they ran both the 'Rising Sun' and then 'The Old Globe' in Mile End/Bethnal Green area in the 1950/60's - (They also bought 'The Bell' in Leytonstone for one of their sons - a Lawrence Ford).
