Anchor, 34 Park Street Southwark Greater London SE1 9EF

It is said to date from the sixteenth century. This is the Blue Anchor, 1 Bankside in 1861 census, this differentiates it from the [Golden] Anchor at 11 Park Street in the same census. ** The Anchor at Bankside rebuilt in 1676 after the great fire of London and remains the sole survivor of the river taverns of Shakespeare's time. It was a Greene King public house in 2017, and still in March 2026. Greene King has announced plans to sell off, or convert 150 pubs into tenanted or franchised locations, as the UK hospitality sector struggles with rising costs.
