15th Mar 1854/License transfer from John Brown to George Cawse/../../../The Era *
Mr Cawse already held a license for another house, and the bench objected that they did not allow one man to hold two licenses, so he undertook to transfer this one to someone else at the next session. From a court case at the Old Bailey on 8th May 1854, we learn that Mr Cord (sic) was also landlord of the Duke of Bridgewater (in St Luke’s, London) and lived there, but that a George Phillips ran the Coach and Horses for him.
