Morning Advertiser. 12 June 1909
Prince of Wales, Ponders End
In support of the application of the licensee and owners for the renewal of the licence of the Prince of Wales beerhouse, South street, Ponders End. The house was an old house, in rather poor condition, of the rateable value of 42 pounds. Within the half a mile radius there were three full licences and another beerhouse.
The house was perfectly easy of supervision. It was an old but prefectly comfortable house. There were three works employing men in the neighbourhood. The police evidence was that the house was well conducted and easy of supervision.
Mr Boyd submitted that the court below had made a mistake in referring this licence to the committee. This was a growing neighbourhood with a great number of works and there was a necessity for men to have licensed premises in which to eat their meals. Mr Marks, valuer, said there had been a steady increase in the trade of this house during the past five years. The barrelage last year was 366, and the bottles 2,088. The committee refused to renew the licence.
