Finchley - Joiners Arms, Ballard lane, Finchley - application for transfer of license from Thomas Charles Boylett to Ida O'Neill. The incoming tenant had kept a licensed house at Croydon, and the police had not yet received papers testifying to her good character. John Barnes, for the brewers, Messrs Campbell, Johnson and Co said that he had known the incoming tenant for many years, and her character was excellent. Granted.

Highgate Brewster Sessions, Four houses scheduled, none to be closed. The proceedings commenced at 10 o'clock and were not concluded until half past five.
Four houses had been scheduled for closing - The Triumph, Finchley; the Joiners Arms, Finchley and the Bull and Horns, and the Red Lion and Sun, Highgate but all licenses were renewed.

This was also scheduled for compulsory closure. It was a small 68 house, with a very large trade. Last year which was bad, sales of £1,385 16s 10d suggested it was a house that was not wanted?
The average takings over a period of four years was nearly £120 a month. In July the takings were £169 9s 1d; and in December £109 12s 9d.
The payments of the licensee for beer for four years averaged £64 per month for 40 barrels.
He had taken note of one of the houses in North Hill, Highgate, and he found it £33 against £64, and the former a fully licensed house. The house was situated in Regents Park road, and was the only beerhouse in the West ward. The nearest beerhouse in a northerly direction was the Belgrave Tavern, and the Dick Turpin in the easterly direction, both over a mile away. In the other direction was the Manor Cottage Tavern.
There are fully licensed house, but this is the only beerhouse. The fully licensed houses are the Railway Hotel, 167 yards away, the King of Prussia, 350 yards away, while the Queens Head and the Moss Hall Tavern were quite half a mile away.
The licensee had put £350 into the house, Conduct was good. Mr Vyvyan Halifax Wells said he had lived next door to the Joiners Arms for four years, and could not wish for a better neighbour. It was excellently conducted, and no sign of any disorder.

Ten new jobs created at Finchley pub, Joiners Arms, following refurbishment

Ten new jobs were created at Finchley pub, Joiners Arms earlier this month when it re-opened following a £140,000 investment.
The pub, which is owned and operated by the award-winning Stonegate Pub Company held an official re-launch party on Thursday 6th June during which customers were treated to a champagne and canapé reception followed by live entertainment from The Big Chief Band.
Commenting on the launch night General Manager Daniel Niedbalski said, “It was a brilliant night and a fantastic turnout. Our customers were really impressed by the changes at the pub. It’s just so much fresher, and brighter now and has some impressive features such as TV screens in the garden for sports and music which is perfect for the summers months.”
A total refurbishment at the pub has seen it alter the layout to add more dining space, increase the number of cask ale pumps at the bar, introduce a dedicated stage area for live music and transform the beer garden with a makeover. Additional TV screens both inside and in the garden mean sports fans need never miss their favourite events.
“I have always prided myself on making Joiners Arms the friendliest and most welcoming pub in the area and that certainly won’t change”, said Daniel. “With our sophisticated new gold, white and black exterior though and fresh new décor inside we look forward to welcoming new customers from the area to the pub.”
The team at the Joiners Arms have several community-based events planned for the coming weeks in aid of local North London charity The Willow Foundation. The first event is a family fun day, planned for Saturday 22nd June and is already creating a buzz amongst locals. The day which runs from 10am will include face painting, fun indoor and outdoor games, and a special karate workshop run by the Finchley Karate Club for which all over the age of 3 can join in. The following day the pub will be screening cartoons during the lunch period so families can enjoy Sunday lunch with an added treat for the children.
Also new at The Joiners Arms will be weekly live music every Thursday evening feature local bands and artists from 8.30 pm.
The pub has introduced a wide range of great deals throughout the week including a new Tuesday’s Wine Club where all bottles of wine will be available for just £8.95 from 5 pm and 50% off all food all day every Wednesday.
Another exciting change is that the pub is now opening daily for breakfast from 8.00am offering customers an eat-in or takeaway service, as well as a breakfast loyalty discount.
“We have a reputation amongst our customers for delivering fantastic service, great food and a good range of wines and cask beers. With extra hand pumps now installed at the bar we are now offering more ales from national and local brewers such as Doom Bar, Fullers, Adnams as well as a number of microbreweries. As part of this greater focus of our traditional brew we have introduced a loyalty card for our ale loving customers too.”
