This pub was present by 1868. ** The modern address is 2a South Hill Park. *
The pub was named after the Battle Of Magdala, during the Abyssinian War of 1868.
On Easter Sunday, 10 April 1955, Ruth Ellis shot and killed her lover David Blakley as he left The Magdala. She was hanged at Holloway Prison on 13 July 1955. She was the last woman to be executed in the UK. ***
