My grand father, Disney Perry Perou, took over the licence sometime in the early 1940's, moving back to London from Hastings where he was licencee of a small corner pub close to St. Leonard's railway station. He then decided to retire and my father, Richard Perry Perou, took the opportunity to get away from the bombing, he had the licence of the Dartmouth Castle'' in Hammersmith. *

Ironically we were inconveniently damaged by a V1 that landed across the road. I have a memory of the rescue teams around a van in Queens Road and my mother providing tea. Despite the damage the pub opened again that evening due to the efforts of the band of the USAF who used the pub. My father told me that he took as much money in US dollars as he did in sterling. *

In 1948 my father was invited by Watneys to revive the White Hart in Greenford Road, Greenford, where he stayed until the reps walked in in 1970 and gave him one year's notice to get out.
