The pub's origins go back to the late 14th century, the current incarnation dating from the late 18th century. Oxford's most famous pub, visited by former presidents, celebrities and a certain fictional police inspector. Currently run by Greene King, the full name is the Turf Tavern, so-called because of its former association with being a turf accountant (betting shop). The alternative address is 4-5 Bath Place. *
