My 3x great grandfather was landlord of the George Inn, Crewkerne (now the
White Hart).
Main information source is the inquest report (Somerset Inquests 1823) dated
January 29th 1823:
"We are sorry to announce that on Wednesday last Mr (John) Pearce, the respected
landlord of the George Inn, Crewkerne, was thrown from his horse in the
neighbourhood of that town, and so much injured that he died soon after. A
coroner's inquest was held on the body on Saturday, which returned a verdict of
accidental death." *
John Pearce was born in 1785, son of a wheelwright and appears in 1807 Masonic
lodge records as a wheelwright. The 1814 lodge records show him as an innkeeper.
I think that is sufficient to add him to the webpage as landlord from 1814 to
1823. *
