ASHBOCKING is a parish and scattered village, 7 miles north from Ipswich railway station, 74 from London, 8 north-west from Woodbridge, 6 from Needham Market, and 5 from Claydon railway station, in the hundred and rural deanery of Bosmere, Bosmere and Claydon union, Ipswich county court district, Suffolk archdeaconry, and Norwich diocese, East Suffolk. The church of All Saints is of Gothic architecture, with a chancel and square tower, with 2 bells. The living is a vicarage, commuted at £387, with residence, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor, and held by the Rev. Maurice Byles Cowell, M.A., of Wadham College, Oxford. John Tollemache, Esq., of Helmingham Hall, is lord of the manor. The population in 1861 was 324; area 1,408 acres of cultivated land.
