Boulge is a small parish, 3 ½ miles north from Woodbridge, in Wilford
hundred, Woodbridge union and county court district, rural deanery of Loose,
archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk. The church of St
Michael is a small neat edifice, restored by J Purcell Fitzgerald, Esq. The
living is a rectory, consolidated with Debach All Saints, joint annual value
£300, in the gift of H W Fieldv Esq, and held by the Rev Thomas Allbutt, M.A. of
St Catharines College, Cambridge. John Fitzgerald, EsqJ.P, of Boulge Hall, is
lord of the manor. The population in 1861 was 39, and the area is 545 acres.
