BOYTON is a parish, near Butley Walcr, in Wilford hundred, Woodbridge union and county court district, East Suffolk, 5 miles south-west from Orford, and 7 ½ eastsouth-east from Woodbridge. The church of St. Andrew is an old stone building. The register is of recent date, the original record being supposed to be lost. The living is a rectory, annual value £365, and held by the Rev. Charles George Hoste, M.A. There are almshouses for 12 poor men and 12 women, founded by the late Mrs. Mary Warner in 1745. The trustees of the almshouse estates arc also patrons of the living. The population in 1861 was 254; the area is 1,533 acres.
