BRADFIELD ST. GEORGE is an extensive parish, in Thedwestry hundred and rural deanery, Tliingoe union, Bury St. Edmund's county court district, Sudbury archdeaconry, and diocese of Ely, West Suffolk, 3 miles south from Thurston station, 93 � from London, and 5 south-east from Bury St. Edmund's. The church of St. George is a neat structure, and has nave, aisle, chancel, and tower with 5 bells. The living is a rectory, with that of Rushbrook annexed, joint annual value �700, in the patronage of the Marquis of Bristol, and held by the Rev. Charles Johnson Cartwright, M.A., of St. John's College, Cambridge. The Rectory is a handsome residence, near the churcli; it has been enlarged and restored by the present rector. There is a school for boys and girls, chiefly supported by the rector; also a Sunday school, held in the church. The soil is mixed; the subsoil, loamy. The parish is purely agricultural. In 1861 the population was 427; and the area 1,984 acres, of fertile and wood land. Parish Clerk, Marmaduke Townsend.
