BRAISEWORTH is a parish and small village, 4 miles south-east from Mellis station, and 2 south-south-west from the borough of Eye, in Hartismere hundred, union, and rural deanery, Suffolk archdeaconry, Norwich diocese, and county court district of Eye, West Suffolk. Of the old church of St. Mary the chancel alone is now standing, and used as a cemetery chapel: a new and handsome church was in 1837 erected in a more convenient part of the parish. The register dates from 1709. The living is a rectory, annual value £200, with.20 acres of glebe, in the gift of Sir Edward Clarence Kerrison. Bart., M.P.; the Rev. Robert Mildred Bingley, M.A., of Trinity College, Cambridge, is the rector. A new Infant parish school was erected in 1862, upon ground contiguous to the church, which is supported by the incumbent and Sir E. C. Kerrison, Bart. Sir Edward Clarence Kerrison, Bart., M.P., is lord of the manor, and the land chiefly belongs to him and Lord Henniker, M.P. The population in 1861 was 164, and the area in acres is 720; the present gross estimated rental being £1,340, and the rateable value £1,103.
