CHARSFIELD is a parish and scattered village, 3 miles from Wickham Market, 5 ½ north-east from Woodbridge, and 84 from London, in Loes hundred and rural deanery, Woodbridge union and county court district, Suffolk archdeaconry, and Norwich diocese, East Suffolk. The church of St. Peter is a handsome brick building, and has nave, chancel, south porch, and lofty tower containing 8 bells. The living is a perpetual curacy, annual value £100, with resilience, in the gift of Earl Howe, and held by the Rev, David Medcalf, M.A., of Trinity College, Dublin. There is in the parish a small Baptist chapel. There are small charities left for the industrious poor. Here are sand pits. Earl Howe is the chief landowner. The population in 1861 was 484, and the parish contains 1,299 acres of land.
