CHATTISHAM is a parish, 3 miles north from Capel station, 5
south-west-by-south from Ipswich, and 5 east from Hadleigh, in Samford hundred,
union, and rural deanery, county court district of Ipswich, Suffolk
archdeaconry, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk. The church of All Saints is
a plain building, with a square tower. The living is a vicarage, annual value
£142 10s., with residence, in the gift of the Provost and Fellows of Eton, and
held by the Rev. Henry Strahan Dickinson, M.A. There is a Wesleyan chapel. The
manor belongs to the Provost and Fellows of Eton College. The Rev. Thomas Warren
left £200 for the education of the poor children of the parish in the principles
of the Established Church. The population in 1861 was 192, and the area is 713
acres.
